Is there a way to produce a more healthy sustainable animal?  We think so, it is forage based.  We say forage based as we often mix species the same as Mother Nature.  In a given paddock we may have various grasses, clovers, beets, sunflowers and other species that complement each other and grow at different times and thrive under varied conditions.  A cow is a lot smarter than we are.  She will select the species that best provide her with the critical nutrients and energy at that time.  Our goal is to make sure she has an adequate selection.  We are also pragmatic in that we monitor our plant species and provide the cattle with critical minerals and nutrients when needed.

The Bullet Points
So here’s what we have seen about the advantages of forage fed beef …and it makes a lot of common sense:

  • More antioxidant Vitamin E
  • More antioxidant Beta Carotene
  • More CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid – cancer prevention)
  • Less Fat/Saturated Fat (this is more natural levels similar to wild meats)
  • Less Omega 6s, More Omega 3s (more natural balance)
